Michael G. “Mike” Okie, age 52 of Parlin passed away Thursday, December 31st 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Teaneck, Michael has resided in Parlin ever since he was 5, always considering himself a lifelong resident. He was employed with the MTA in New York as a bus operator where he was a member of Local ATU 726 and previously was a structural steel painter with Local 806, New York. He was also a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 2061. Michael was an avid fisherman and a lifelong fan of the New York Giants.
He is predeceased by his father Gerard Okie. Surviving are his beloved wife of 25 years, Susan (Twardos) of Parlin, mother JoAnn (Rolfe) of Florida, his children Amanda of South Amboy, and Alyson, Matthew & Patrick of Parlin; his sisters and their spouses Debra & Jeff Spano of Parlin, Ann Marie Okie of Florida, and Sharon Okie & Tim Douglas of Freehold; Nancy Gillen of Woodland Park, George Okie of Wallington and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:30am Friday, January 8 at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with an 11am Mass at St. Bernadette’s RC Church in Parlin. A private cremation will follow.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, January 7 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Michael’s name to Sayreville Brain Injured Children, 251 Jernee Mill Road Sayreville, NJ 08872.
