Irene Eden, age 85 of Lakewood, passed away Monday December 26, 2016 at Meridian Nursing Home in Brick, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Brunswick where she spent most of her life before moving to South Brunswick, then most recently to Lakewood. Before her retirement in 1996, Irene spent 30 years as an assistant manager at the Star Ledger Newspaper. Following her retirement, she continued to work part time as an office manager at the Atlantic Cleaners Carpet Services. She finally retired in 2012 at the age of 81.
She is predeceased by her husband Nelson Eden, her daughters Beverly Eden, Maria Vertrees and Debra Eden and her sons Stanley and John Vertrees.
Surviving are her sons James Eller and daughter-in-law Denise Averette and Glen Eden and his wife Joyce, her daughters Brenda Kaiser, Nancy Richardson, and JoAnn Mingoia and her husband Salvatore, her grandchildren Martine, Tiffany, Felicity, Alexa, James Jr., Candace, Tori, her great-grandchildren Tyler, Kayla, Logan, Chloe, Ben and John and many nieces and nephews and her long time companion Richard Bockman.
Funeral services will be Thursday 8pm at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin NJ.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
