Obituary for Fernando Major Verissimo

South River
Fernando Major Verissimo, age 71 of South River, passed away peacefully, May 3, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Barra Mira Portugal, he had resided in South River for many years. Before his retirement, Major worked construction for many years and was a proud member of Union Local 472 in Newark. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi RC Church in South River, a member and past vice president of the South River Portuguese Club and an avid outdoorsman.
He is predeceased by his parents Jorge and Dolcina Verissimo and his grandson Marito Zargo.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years Maria Parracho Verissimo, his children Maria, Manny and his wife Lena, Pedro and his wife Toni, David, his grandchildren Nuno, Sonia Silva and her husband Mark, Nina, Kevin, Mikey and a host of other relatives and friends in the US and Portugal who loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be Monday 8:45am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Ave. South River, with a 9:30am mass to follow at Corpus Christi RC Church in South River. Burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
