Joseph Zakrzewski age 89 of South Amboy passed away peacefully on Sunday January 18, 2015 at his home with his loving and devoted family at his side. Born in Harrison he has resided in South Amboy for the past 68 years. Before his retirement he was employed as a line person and then store keeper for Jersey Central Power & Light in South Amboy. Mr. Zakrzewski was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was a member of Sayreville Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 4699 and American Legion Post 211 and the South Amboy Senior Citizens. Joseph was a communicant of Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy.

He is predeceased by his parents Roman & Josephine Zakrzewski, his brother Denny Zakrzewski and his sister Hedwig Wheeler. Surviving are his wife of 68 years Irene Jarusiewicz Zakrzewski, his children and their spouses Joseph & Marilyn Zakrzewski of Savannah, Georgia, Shirley & Ernie Read of Sayreville, Eileen & Stanley Kucinski of Millsboro, Delaware and Kevin & Debra Zakrzewski of Sayreville, his grandchildren Debbie Arocho, Dawn Price, Brad Read, Dr. Justin Kucinski, Kristen Zakrzewski, Ashley Wilson and Megan Zakrzewski, his great grandchildren Joey, Alex, Brendan, Briana and Aiden, and his brother Ted Zakrzewski of Brick.

Funeral services will be held Friday 8:30am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home 15 Cherry Lane Parlin followed by a 9am mass at Sacred Heart R. C. Church in South Amboy with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. The following groups will hold services at the funeral home on Thursday American Legion Post 211 7:15pm, VFW post 4699 7:30pm.
